The anti-missile shield cannot defend the Czech Republic

Although General Henry A. "Trey" Obering, Chief Executive of the US Missile Defense Agency, said clearly on 25th January 2007 that the US radar in the Czech Republic will protect the US radars in Greenland and in Alaska and that it will defend the territory of the United States and the US allies in North Western Europe, Czech Prime Minister Topolánek and Defence Secretary Parkanová, Foreign Secretary Schwarzenberg and Czech Deputy Premier Alexander Vondra still keep telling us that "we must show that we are ready to defend our territory". Europeans Split Over U.S. Missile Defense Plans

European countries are divided over a recent U.S. offer to begin negotiations with Poland and the Czech Republic on basing components of a U.S. anti-missile system on their territories. Washington has proposed building a radar for the system in the Brdy district in the Czech Republic and a site for 10 missile interceptors near Koszalin , Poland , to counter a potential threat from longer-range Iranian missiles aimed at the U.S. East Coast and parts of Europe . The proposal has stirred strong opposition from Russia . (See ACT, March 2007.)

Todays Zaman, Turkey: Czech village rejects possible US radar station

Residents of the tiny Czech village of Trokavec have voted overwhelmingly against hosting a radar station as part of a proposed US missile defense shield, local media reported on Sunday.
